That being said this does not mean they can't look great. Lately, I've found that making nice shapes and making the rig look nice is actually one of my favorite parts of the process. The dreaded gimbal lockAh yes gimbal lock. Every animator and rigger has dealt with this. It is something that always causes issues. In this video we review how rotation order works in Blender. The main goal is to choose a rotation order that makes sense for the joint. Check it out and let us know how you choose rotation order! Gimbal lock is not just a Blender issue. Here is a great video going into more detail. Gimbal is not just an issue in the virtual world. Here is a great video by Vintage Space where a real life gimbal is reviewed. They solved this issue by adding a forth axis, maybe we should do something similar in 3D. I'll cover some solutions to gimbal lock in future videos! Do you have any suggestions for gimbal lock?
